WSSCC  co-organized with WaterAid Eastern Africa Region (WAEA), End Water Poverty (EWP), Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) and the African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation (ANEW) the East Africa CSO Forum  took place from 16th to 18th April 2013 in Kampala, Uganda. The event was hosted by the Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET). The Forum aimed at strengthening the capacity of East African WASH CSO networks and organizations to engage, monitor and influence policy and practice at national and regional levels for improved WASH sector governance and delivery.

The agenda of the Forum included sessions such as reflections on the 2012 SWA High Level Meeting and advocacy planning at national and regional level to more effectively track existing commitments and prepare for upcoming events such as the High Level Meeting and AfricaSan in 2014. The programme was also looking  into capacity building through a set of learning clinics on tools for monitoring commitments, budget tracking, joint sector reviews and how to engage better the media.

Despite collective efforts undertaken by different institutions and partners, access in Eastern Africa is 56% for water and only 25% for sanitation. In terms of people, this means that almost 120 million do not have access to safe drinking water, nearly 200 million do not have improved sanitation.
