In this month’s Our Planet magazine, Chris W. Williams, Executive Director of WSSCC, and Julian Kyomuhangi, Assistant Commissioner of Health Services – Environmental Health for the Republic of Uganda, write a challenging article about the silent health emergency caused by inadequate health and sanitation across the developing world.
The article reveals that the sanitation target in the Millennium Development Goals is likely to be missed by half a billion people worldwide, making it the most off-track goal. If the current trend continues, Uganda will only reach its MDG target by 2051. Williams and Kyomuhangi make the compelling case that sanitation and hygiene are engines that drive health, social and economic development, and contribute to a cleaner environment.
