Steering Committee meets in Geneva

WSSCC’s governing body, the member-elected Steering Committee, met for the first of its two 2010 meetings on 25-26 March in Geneva. Several strategic and policy decisions were made, and routine administrative operational and administrative updates were provided to the representatives from WSSCC’s regions and partner agencies.

There were a number of highlights. One was the approval of a Private Sector Partnerships Strategy that will guide WSSCC’s interaction with commercial and corporate stakeholders who desire to support sanitation, hygiene, and water supply work. Another was the Steering Committee decision to revise the country selection criteria for the Global Sanitation Fund by adding criterion which strengthened WSSCC’s ability to support GSF-funded work outside of South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, where most of the initial programme countries are located.

The committee also instructed the WSSCC Executive Director to review and suggest changes as necessary to the existing Membership Strategy and the Coalition Building Guidelines, so as to improve synergy between the two. As well, the committee reviewed the list of partner agencies with which WSSCC in general and the Secretariat in particular will work collaboratively with in the coming years.
