To our valued WSSCC members, partners and staff,
Since 1990, when it was created through a United Nations General Assembly Resolution, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) has worked to support Member States in achieving safe sanitation, hygiene and drinking water for everyone in the world, especially for the most vulnerable and marginalized.
Over the past 25 years WSSCC has contributed to major gains, together with diverse partners across the globe. Some 2.6 billion people have gained access to safe, clean drinking water in the last 25 years, and 2.1 billion more people now have the dignity and health that comes with a private toilet.
However, we realize that our work is unfinished. Through collaboration with thousands of members and partners and support to the Sustainable Development Goals, we will endeavour to help complete this noble task via our work in equality and non-discrimination, and the national sanitation and hygiene programmes supported through the Global Sanitation Fund.
Our 25th anniversary will take place on 4 December 2015, and to honour this achievement we will host a gathering on the day at the United Nations Office at Geneva. High-profile guests, founders and current and former staff from around the world will come together to exchange stories and reflect on the Council’s success, challenges and road ahead. We wish you could all be there, but we will use the occasion to recognize the support you have given us over the past 25 years.
Our success would not have been possible without you. We thank you for your support and we look forward to advocating together for safe sanitation, hygiene and drinking water for all in the years ahead!
