Don’t waste a good investment!

WSSCC’s Global WASH Campaign “GDP for GDP” -  Good Dignity Practice for Gross Domestic Product -  is gearing up to help increase engagement and mobilize advocacy efforts in the lead up to the second Sanitation and Water for All High Level Meeting on 21 April 2012 in Washington DC, USA. The meeting, which will focus on the economic gains of investing in sanitation and hygiene, brings together Ministers of Finance, Ministers of Development Cooperation and other high level representatives.

Just as the key theme of the forthcoming High Level Meeting, the GDP for GDP campaign refers to the economic benefits that effective WASH brings.  It not only seeks to target key decision-makers and media, but also to empower civil society actors and organizations to lobby and make their Government’s accountable for change in the sanitation and water sector, today.

The voice of the campaign at its core is intended to be used by all those involved and interested in speaking out about the state on sanitation and hygiene in their country. It has been designed to be tailored for different country
contexts, with a thematic focus on Dignity, Health, Productivity, Education, Tourism, Jobs and Leadership.  Additionally, this campaign is aimed at those who are interested in longer term advocacy work to promote the economic
benefits of investing in sanitation and hygiene.

The GDP for GDP campaign, launched formally in 2011, is the latest focus of the successful and wider Global WASH Campaign and can help to provide visibility and vibrancy to ongoing advocacy efforts.

The campaign has developed a set of ready-to-use critical messages to promote sanitation and hygiene as good economic investments.
