WSSCC Global Sanitation Fund event at 22-26 Nov. Africa Water Week

News

The 3rd annual Africa Water Week takes place from 22 to 26 November in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. WSSCC will participate and arrange a side event on the Global Sanitation Fund, including the official "launching event" for the GSF work in Ethiopia.

The side event aims to give an overview of the various GSF programmes in Africa. In total, the Global Sanitation Fund is active in 17 countries, of which 11 are in Sub-Saharan Africa. Madagascar and Senegal have officially launched their programmes while preparations are underway in Uganda, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Togo and Benin.

The countries vary in their institutional capacities and political situation and each programme development process is unique. The session will 1) introduce the rationale and principles of the GSF, 2) give an overview of country programmes which are being developed in a number of African countries, 3) outline positive results emerging from the GSF approach to date, and 4) address some challenges of planning and operating at scale.
